2A Prime MPI — An LPG System for Multi Point Injection Engines

2A Prime MPI is a domestically produced LPG conversion system, 2A Mühendislik's own R&D product, developed for vehicles with multi point injection (MPI) engines.

What Is an MPI Engine?

In MPI (Multi Point Injection) engines, petrol is sprayed into the intake port of each cylinder through a separate injector. Before entering the cylinder the fuel mixes with air in the intake manifold, and the mixture is drawn into the combustion chamber ready.

Compared with direct injection engines, this architecture is naturally suited to LPG conversion. The reason is this: the petrol injectors sit in the intake port rather than inside the combustion chamber. When the system switches to LPG these injectors are not directly exposed to the high temperature of the combustion chamber. The controlled petrol flow required in direct injection engines is therefore not needed here.

What Is 2A Prime MPI?

2A Prime MPI is a complete LPG conversion system that works in parallel with the vehicle's petrol system. It consists of an electronic control unit, gas injectors, a vaporiser, a tank and connection equipment.

After installation the vehicle becomes bi-fuel. It runs on petrol while the engine is cold and switches automatically to LPG once it reaches a certain temperature. The driver does not need to do anything for this transition; if they wish, they can also change fuel manually using the fuel selector switch on the console.

What sets the system apart is the way its control software works.

AI Assisted Smart Control

Conventional LPG systems work to a fixed table based on the calibration carried out during installation. This means the vehicle runs on the same setting in every condition — whereas the engine's needs in city traffic are not the same as on a long journey.

2A Prime MPI works with an AI assisted control layer. The system continuously updates gas injection timing by evaluating the engine's instantaneous load, rev and temperature data. Over time it recognises how the vehicle is used and optimises the mixture accordingly.

The practical result is this: the system aims to hold a consistent balance of saving and performance even when the same vehicle is used in different conditions.

Less Fuel, a Cleaner Future

The price per litre of LPG is noticeably below that of petrol. Because the engine consumes a somewhat greater volume in LPG mode than on petrol, the saving does not equal the price difference directly, but the cost per kilometre stays below petrol. In vehicles with high annual mileage this difference becomes noticeable within a short time.

There is a meaningful gain on the environmental side as well. LPG burns releasing less particulate matter and less carbon monoxide than petrol. Lower soot formation reduces exhaust emissions.

The smart control structure of 2A Prime MPI manages these two themes together: because no more gas than necessary is delivered, consumption stays under control and combustion is cleaner.

High Performance, Smooth Driving

The concern drivers raise most often in LPG conversion is loss of power. That concern is mostly the result of older generation systems or faulty calibration.

2A Prime MPI aims for a driving feel close to petrol mode by managing the mixture according to the engine's immediate needs. There is no change the driver would notice in accelerator response, rev build-up or gear changes.

The automatic transition from petrol to LPG is also designed to be free of jolts. No noticeable fluctuation in engine revs is expected at the moment of transition.

Reliable Technology, Long Service Life

LPG burns leaving less soot than petrol. This helps reduce deposits inside the engine. In a correctly installed and correctly calibrated system there is nothing that shortens engine life.

The electronic infrastructure of 2A Prime MPI reports a problem in the system by pointing to the component concerned rather than giving a general warning. The service sees directly whether the problem is in the vaporiser, the gas injector or a sensor. This shortens fault diagnosis time and prevents unnecessary part replacement.

The fact that the product is domestically produced also speeds up spare part supply and access to technical support.

MPI or DI?

There are two products in the 2A Prime family, and the difference between them is not one of quality but of compatibility.

If your vehicle is multi point injection, 2A Prime MPI is suitable. If it is direct injection, 2A Prime DI, designed specifically for that architecture, must be used because the petrol injectors need protection.

The engine code usually gives a clue; designations such as TSI, TFSI, GDI and T-GDI mostly point to direct injection families. However, because versions with different injection types can exist under the same make, proceeding on a guess is not advisable.

Installation and Afterwards

In LPG conversion, installation quality is as decisive as product quality. The same system, when not calibrated correctly, comes back as high consumption or a loss of performance. For this reason 2A Prime products are fitted only through a trained service network.

After installation an LPG tank is fitted in the boot or in the spare wheel well; the tank type and position are determined according to the vehicle. A small fuel selector switch and gauge showing the remaining gas level and the active fuel is added to the console.

After conversion, legal documents such as the installation inspection report and the gas leak test report are issued and the fuel type on the registration is updated. This process is subject to regulation and may change over time; you can confirm the current requirements with our authorised service.
