2A Prime DI — An LPG System for Direct Injection Engines

LPG conversion in direct injection vehicles is not as straightforward as in conventional engines. 2A Prime DI is a domestically produced LPG conversion system, 2A Mühendislik's own R&D product, developed precisely to solve that difficulty.

What Is Direct Injection and Why Does It Complicate Conversion?

In direct injection (DI) engines, petrol is sprayed at high pressure straight into the combustion chamber rather than into the intake manifold. This structure increases fuel efficiency and engine power; the majority of recent years' turbocharged, small displacement engines use this architecture.

However, this design has a critical consequence where LPG is concerned. In DI engines the tips of the petrol injectors sit inside the combustion chamber and are cooled by the petrol passing through them. Thanks to the fuel flowing over the injector, the risk of damage to the injector is removed.

Our 2A Prime DI kit prevents damage to the petrol injectors by maintaining petrol flow in a controlled manner. This is why a standard LPG system produced for MPI engines cannot be fitted to a direct injection vehicle.

How Does 2A Prime DI Solve This Problem?

2A Prime DI maintains the minimum petrol flow required to protect the petrol injectors while meeting the remaining fuel demand with LPG. The system continuously updates this balance by reading the engine's instantaneous load, revs and temperature.

The result comes down to three headings:

There is no loss of performance on LPG. Because the system manages the mixture according to the engine's needs, the driver does not experience a difference from petrol mode.

The same saving and performance in every road, load and temperature condition. Stop-start city traffic, long journeys, a fully loaded vehicle or cold weather — the system adjusts itself to the conditions rather than working to a fixed table.

The lowest petrol consumption among comparable systems in the sector. In DI systems the measure of efficiency is the amount of petrol spent on protection. 2A Prime DI has been developed to keep that value at the lowest possible level.

IAS3 Adaptation Technology

At the heart of 2A Prime DI is IAS3 adaptation technology. This technology allows the system to work in full integration with the vehicle's own control architecture.

In practice this means the system reads the data coming from the vehicle's engine control unit and adapts gas injection to that data. Because engine characteristics vary from vehicle to vehicle, a fixed calibration does not give the same result across all models. IAS3 removes that difference by allowing the system to adapt to the vehicle it is fitted to.

Another consequence of this integration is that it does not conflict with the vehicle's own warning systems. In a correctly installed system, having LPG mode engaged does not trigger the vehicle's own fault warnings.

Automatic Cleaning for the Petrol Injectors

In DI engines the petrol injectors are open to deposit formation because they operate inside the combustion chamber. This is a known characteristic of this engine type, independent of LPG.

2A Prime DI applies automatic cleaning to the injectors. The system manages the controlled petrol flow in a way that helps keep the injectors clean. This provides protection and, over the long term, aims to preserve injector performance.

Advanced OBD and Fault Diagnosis

2A Prime DI communicates over the vehicle's OBD line. This provides two practical benefits.

First, the system manages the mixture more accurately by accessing the vehicle's real time data. Second, when a problem occurs in the system it reports it specifically rather than as a general warning. This shortens fault diagnosis time and prevents unnecessary part replacement.

Easy and Fast Installation

2A Prime DI is designed to shorten installation time. The connection points and cable layout were planned with the practical problems encountered in field application in mind.

That said, the calibration that follows is as important as the installation itself. The system is set individually according to the character of the vehicle's engine; a standard calibration is not applied to every vehicle. For this reason installation is carried out only through a trained authorised service network.

Smart technology. Through advanced software and hardware integration the system manages itself and expects no intervention from the driver.

High performance. Mixture management that works to the engine's needs aims for a driving feel close to petrol mode even in LPG mode.

Long life. Controlled petrol flow and injector cleaning are designed so that the engine is not harmed by this conversion. The fact that LPG burns leaving less soot also reduces soot formation inside the engine.

Can LPG be fitted to a direct injection vehicle?

Yes, but only with a system designed specifically for this architecture. A standard LPG system produced for MPI engines is not suitable for a direct injection vehicle. 2A Prime DI was developed for this purpose.

Why does the system not cut petrol off completely?

In DI engines the petrol injectors are inside the combustion chamber and are cooled by the petrol passing through them. If the flow is cut off completely the petrol injectors can be damaged. Controlled petrol flow is not a shortcoming but a deliberate choice of protection.

How much petrol is used?

What does IAS3 do?

How do I know whether my vehicle is DI?

Is there a loss of power in LPG mode?

In a system installed with hardware suited to the vehicle's engine structure and with appropriate calibration after conversion, no loss that the driver would notice occurs. The system manages the mixture according to the engine's immediate needs.

How does the system work in cold weather?

The vehicle runs on petrol until the engine reaches a certain temperature, then switches automatically to LPG. This transition requires no intervention from the driver and is a standard operating principle applied in all systems.

Does the system require maintenance?
