Fuel costs are one of the largest items in owning a car. Add tightening emission regulations to that, and alternative fuel systems are no longer only on the agenda of those looking to save money, but of anyone who wants to run their vehicle efficiently for many years.
At 2A Mühendislik we have worked in alternative fuel and autogas systems since 1995. On this page you will find what alternative fuel means, how the right system is chosen for your vehicle, and where our own 2A Prime product family stands in that picture.
Alternative fuel describes the types of fuel that can be used instead of, or alongside, petrol or diesel in internal combustion engines. The most widely used in the automotive field are LPG (autogas), CNG (compressed natural gas) and LNG (liquefied natural gas).
Among these, the most accessible option for the individual driver is LPG. The reason is simple: Türkiye has a widespread station network, conversion costs less than the alternatives, and the system can be fitted to an existing petrol engine after purchase. After conversion the vehicle becomes bi-fuel, meaning it can run on both petrol and LPG, and the driver can switch between the two.
For more detail on what LPG is and how it is used as autogas, you can visit our What Is LPG? and What Is Autogas? pages.
There are three main reasons autogas is preferred.
Economical. The price per litre of LPG is noticeably below that of petrol. Because the engine consumes a somewhat greater volume in LPG mode, the saving does not equal the price difference directly; even so, the cost per kilometre stays below petrol. In vehicles with high annual mileage this difference reaches a level that covers the cost of conversion after a certain period.
Ecological. When it burns, LPG releases less particulate matter and less carbon monoxide than petrol. Lower soot formation also reduces deposits inside the engine. This makes a meaningful difference both environmentally and in terms of engine life.
Technological. Today's autogas systems are not the same as first generation conversions. Modern systems communicate with the vehicle's own electronic control unit, adjust injection timing to the engine's immediate needs, and produce their own diagnostic data in the event of a fault. In a correctly installed, up to date system the driver is not expected to feel any difference between petrol and LPG.
The most critical distinction when choosing an alternative fuel system is your vehicle's fuel injection type. This directly determines which product will be fitted.
In MPI (Multi Point Injection) engines, petrol is sprayed into the intake manifold, into the intake port of each cylinder through a separate injector. The fuel mixes with air before entering the cylinder.
This architecture is well suited to LPG conversion. LPG in its gas phase is delivered to the same area through separate gas injectors working in parallel with the petrol injectors. The sequential autogas systems used widely in Türkiye for many years work on this principle. For a detailed explanation of the subject you can look at our Sequential Autogas Systems page.
The product we developed for MPI engines: 2A Prime MPI.
In DI (Direct Injection) engines, petrol is sprayed at high pressure directly into the combustion chamber rather than into the intake manifold. The majority of recent years' turbocharged, small displacement engines use this architecture.
Direct injection makes LPG conversion technically harder. The underlying reason is that in these engines the petrol injectors sit inside the combustion chamber and are cooled by the petrol passing through them. When the system switches entirely to LPG no petrol flows through the injectors; the injector tips are exposed directly to the heat of the combustion chamber and can be damaged over time.
For this reason LPG systems designed for DI engines maintain a small, controlled flow of petrol in order to protect the injectors. This is exactly where competition in the sector takes place: how little petrol a system needs to provide that protection determines its efficiency.
The product we developed for DI engines: 2A Prime DI.
2A Prime is the domestically produced LPG conversion system brand that emerged from 2A Mühendislik's own R&D work. It consists of two products:
2A Prime DI — For direct injection engines. It integrates fully with the vehicle control system through IAS3 adaptation technology, applies automatic cleaning for the petrol injectors, and operates with the lowest petrol consumption among comparable systems in the sector.
2A Prime MPI — For multi point injection engines. It manages the fuel mixture according to driving conditions through an AI assisted smart control structure.
The three themes we emphasise in both products are the same: economical use, ecological combustion and up to date electronics. You can review the entire product family on the 2A Prime page.
LPG conversion does not change how the vehicle works; it adds a second fuel line to it. In practice the following change:
The legal side of conversion involves documents such as the installation inspection report and the gas leak test report. The process is subject to regulation and may be updated over time; for current requirements we recommend speaking with our authorised service.
In an alternative fuel system, installation quality is as decisive as product quality. The same system, when not calibrated correctly, comes back as a loss of performance or high consumption. That is why 2A Prime products are fitted only through a trained service network.

Will fitting LPG shorten my engine's life?
In a conversion carried out with the right product and the right calibration there is no such situation. Because LPG burns leaving less soot than petrol, soot formation inside the engine is reduced. What matters is choosing the system that suits the vehicle's injection type and having the installation done at an authorised service.
Can I fit LPG to my direct injection (DI) vehicle?
Yes. However, a standard system produced for MPI engines is not suitable for this. Because the petrol injectors need protection in DI engines, a system designed specifically for this architecture must be used. 2A Prime DI was developed for that purpose.
How do I know whether my vehicle is DI or MPI?
The engine code usually gives sufficient indication. Designations such as TSI, TFSI, GDI, T-GDI and EcoBoost mostly point to direct injection families. For certainty, simply send us the vehicle's make, model and engine details and we will determine the right system.
Will my vehicle lose power when it switches to LPG?
In a conversion carried out with a suitable system, no loss of power that the driver would notice is expected. 2A Prime systems aim for a driving feel close to petrol mode by managing the mixture the engine requires in real time.
How long does the conversion take to pay for itself?
This depends on the vehicle's annual mileage, engine displacement and current fuel prices. In vehicles with high annual mileage the payback period shortens noticeably. For a calculation specific to your vehicle you can get in touch with us.
Can LPG vehicles enter closed car parks?
This depends on local regulations and the rules of the facility concerned; there is no single general answer. It is best to confirm the current situation with the operator of the car park you intend to use.
Does the system require maintenance?
Yes. Like the other parts of the engine, LPG systems require periodic checks. Filter replacement and general checks should be carried out at set intervals. Because maintenance intervals vary with how intensively the vehicle is used, we recommend obtaining a schedule specific to your vehicle from your authorised service.
